About CommonRoom.org

In the beginning, CommonRoom.org was in fact CommonRoom.org.uk. This domain was obtained by Rob Parker, with the intention of making a website where sixth formers of South Wolds (past and present) could keep in touch with each other.

This site did that nicely, and was a sucess. But, it was all based on freebies. The domain name was free, as was the hosting for both the site and forum.

Neil Williamson took over the site, and enlisted the help of Ben Quick, who decided all the freebies were very limiting. Hence, he bought CommonRoom.org and paid for somewhere to host the site. We're now a lot less limited by what we can do, and it's possible to buy upgrades for the account, should they be needed.

The future of CommonRoom.org

Ben will continue to generously foot the bill for the Common Room's hosting, for the time being at least, even though he no longer works as webmaster. We don't ask anyone who joins the site to contribute to the costs, although donations are welcome.

Neil will continue to maintain the code behind the site and forum for the forseeable future, unless someone we like with good knowledge of Perl comes forward to take over.

Updaters from the present Year 13 will soon be responsible for the content. If this job interests you, use the suggestion form below. The more the merrier, as they say.

Of course, we'd like this site to grow. But we can't do it without your help. We're looking for people willing to take the helm of new sections - for example, pictures, parties, that sort of thing. You don't need to know much HTML in order to run a section, and what you need is basic enough that you can learn in minutes - the admin section makes it simple.
